Edit a PDF Right in Your Browser
Sometimes you do not need to rebuild a document from scratch — you just need to add a note, fill in a blank, or mark up a page before sending it back. PDFMarkr's PDF editor lets you edit a PDF by placing new text, rectangles, and highlights anywhere on the page, then downloading the result. It is completely free, needs no account or sign-up, and runs on any modern browser across Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.
How It Works
When you open your file, it loads directly into your browser's memory. Everything you do — adding a text box, drawing a rectangle, dropping a highlight — happens on your own device. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server, so nothing leaves your computer while you work. When you are finished, you export a fresh copy with your additions baked in, and no watermark is added to the output. There is nothing to install and no software to keep updated.
What You Can Add
- Text: Click anywhere to add text to a PDF — a name, a date, a correction, or a short comment.
- Rectangles: Draw boxes to frame a field, group related items, or cover an area with a solid shape.
- Highlights: Draw attention to a clause, a figure, or an action item with a colored highlight.
Together these let you annotate a PDF and write on a PDF without printing, scanning, or opening heavier desktop software.
Common Use Cases
- Adding your name and the date to a form that has no fillable fields
- Marking up a draft with review notes before returning it
- Highlighting key figures in a report or invoice
- Boxing the exact section a colleague needs to check
- Labeling a scanned page with a reference number
Honest Limitations
PDFMarkr adds new elements on top of your PDF; it does not reflow or re-edit the existing typed text of the original document. If you need to change a word that is already printed in the file, this tool cannot rewrite that underlying text — instead, you would place a rectangle over the old text and type the correction on top. There is also no OCR, so words inside a scanned, image-only page are treated as part of the image and cannot be selected or edited. For deeper changes to the source content, it is best to return to the file's original source, such as the Word document, and re-export.
Related Tools
If your goal is specifically to sign a document, our Sign PDF tool is built for placing a signature, and when a file already contains interactive fields, the Fill PDF Forms tool lets you type straight into them. Like the editor, both run locally in your browser with no uploads and no account.
Frequently Asked Questions
Not directly. PDFMarkr adds new text, rectangles, and highlights on top of the page — it does not reflow or rewrite the text that is already typed into the original document. To 'change' a word, most people cover it with a rectangle and type the replacement on top. For real edits to the underlying content, go back to the source file, such as the Word document, and re-export.
Open your PDF, choose the text tool, and click where you want the text to go. You can add a name, date, note, or correction anywhere on the page, then download the updated file. Everything happens in your browser, so the PDF is never uploaded.
No. Supported tasks run entirely in your browser, in memory. Your PDF stays on your own device the whole time you are editing, and nothing is sent to a server. When you close the tab, the working copy is gone.
Yes. You can add colored highlights and draw rectangles to mark up clauses, figures, or sections, and add text notes alongside them. It is a straightforward way to annotate a PDF or write on a PDF for reviews and markups without extra software.
No. There is no sign-up, no account, and no install. The editor is free to use on any modern browser, and there is no watermark added to your downloaded file.
